Hebrews 9:15; 1 Peter 1:3–5
Overview
One of the glorious blessings of the New Covenant is that every believer receives an eternal inheritance through Jesus Christ. Unlike earthly inheritances that can be lost, diminished, or destroyed, the inheritance God gives is everlasting, secure, and reserved in heaven. Jesus Christ, through His sacrificial death and resurrection, has redeemed those who trust in Him and made them heirs of all that God has promised. This inheritance is guaranteed by God's faithfulness and secured forever through the finished work of Christ.
Analysis
Under the Old Covenant, God's people received an earthly inheritance in the Promised Land. While that inheritance was a wonderful blessing, it pointed forward to something far greater. Under the New Covenant, believers receive an eternal inheritance that includes forgiveness of sins, eternal life, fellowship with God, the resurrection of the body, and an everlasting kingdom. This inheritance cannot be lost because it is secured by Jesus Christ and protected by God's power.
📖 Hebrews 9:15
Jesus Secured Our Eternal Inheritance
15 Therefore He is the Mediator of the New Covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, because a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
🔹 The Truth
Jesus Christ is the Mediator of the New Covenant. His death accomplished what the sacrifices of the Old Covenant could never accomplish. By offering Himself as the perfect sacrifice for sin, He redeemed believers and secured the eternal inheritance God had promised.
🔹 The Promise
God promises an eternal inheritance to everyone who responds to His call through faith in Jesus Christ. This inheritance is not earned by works but received because Christ has paid the full price of redemption.
✅ The Conclusion
Our eternal inheritance is possible because Jesus died in our place. His sacrifice redeemed us from sin and guaranteed every blessing of the New Covenant.
📖 1 Peter 1:3–4
An Inheritance Reserved in Heaven
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His abundant mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is incorruptible, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you.
🔹 The Truth
God's mercy gives believers new birth and a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The inheritance He promises is unlike anything on earth. It cannot decay, become polluted by sin, or lose its value. God Himself has reserved it in heaven for His people.
🔹 The Promise
God promises an inheritance that is incorruptible, undefiled, and unfading. Every disciple who belongs to Christ has the assurance that their eternal inheritance is secure and waiting for them.
✅ The Conclusion
The believer's hope rests not in temporary earthly possessions but in the eternal inheritance that God has prepared and preserved in heaven.
📖 1 Peter 1:5
Kept by the Power of God
5 You are being kept by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
🔹 The Truth
Believers are not responsible for preserving their own inheritance. God Himself protects His people by His power. The same God who saves also keeps those who belong to Jesus Christ until their salvation is fully revealed at His return.
🔹 The Promise
God promises to preserve every disciple through His power until the day they receive the fullness of their eternal inheritance. His faithfulness guarantees the completion of His saving work.
✅ The Conclusion
Our security rests in God's power, not our own. Because He faithfully keeps His people, they can look forward with confidence to the full enjoyment of their eternal inheritance.
