Titus: Sound Teaching That Produces Godly Living

Titus

Titus gives instruction for establishing order in the assemblies of Crete. Paul teaches that sound doctrine must lead to godly character, good works, and a clear witness before the world.

I. Appointing Godly Elders And Silencing False Teachers

📖 Titus 1

🔹 Titus was left in Crete to set in order what remained and appoint elders in every city.
🔹 Elders must be above reproach, faithful to their wives, self-controlled, holy, and able to teach sound doctrine.
🔹 They must hold firmly to the faithful word so they can encourage believers and refute those who contradict.
🔹 Many false teachers were deceiving whole households.
🔹 Their teaching was motivated by dishonest gain.
🔹 They claimed to know God but denied Him by their works.

II. Sound Teaching For Godly Living

📖 Titus 2

🔹 Titus was to teach what is fitting for sound doctrine.
🔹 Older men were to be sober, reverent, self-controlled, sound in faith, love, and patience.
🔹 Older women were to live reverently and teach what is good.
🔹 Younger women were to love their husbands and children and be discreet, pure, and workers at home.
🔹 Younger men were to be self-controlled.
🔹 Titus was to be an example of good works, sound teaching, dignity, and sincerity.
🔹 Servants were to be faithful so that the teaching of God would be honored.
🔹 The grace of God teaches believers to deny ungodliness and live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age.
🔹 Believers are to look for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.

III. Salvation By Mercy And Good Works

📖 Titus 3

🔹 Believers are to be submissive to rulers, ready for every good work, gentle, and peaceable.
🔹 All people were once foolish, disobedient, and enslaved by sinful desires.
🔹 God saved believers because of His mercy, not because of righteous works they had done.
🔹 Salvation comes through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
🔹 Believers are justified by grace and made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
🔹 Those who have believed in God are to be careful to maintain good works.
🔹 Foolish disputes, arguments about the Law, and divisive people are to be avoided.
